For a month in mid-winter, two weeks each side of Christmas, we have some light, which is nearly as bright as daylight, for approx. 2 hours each day with nearly an hour of twilight before and after. In the middle of January the sun rises and days start getting longer by about 10 minutes each day.
Before the beginning of June we have nonstop daylight, which lasts for nearly two months. The sun goes around in the sky day and night, so that it shines through the south-facing windows at midday and through the north-facing windows at midnight, for about 60 days!

Winter

Some years, winter snow conditions can prevail as early as October, sometimes snow doesn’t arrive until December. Nearly all of our winter activities require snow of varying depths. While it is possible to ski with very little, huskies require a little more, and snowmobiles even more in order to be safe! As conditions can change daily, early season programme availability is hard to predict. Likewise, towards the end of the season, snow conditions can deteriorate in April or continue well into May. If traveling early or late season, please check the snow situation with us before departure to avoid disappointment. Our news page also gives weather updates, as do the more accurate and detailed local weather maps (above) and road cameras (below).

Road cameras produce pictures of the latest driving conditions.
From the map of Finland, choose Lapin lääni and then Vt 4 Tiainen for the village camera or Vt 4 Napapiiri for the conditions at the Arctic Circle just north of Rovaniemi but 52 km south of us, or St 962 Sodankylä, Luosto for the conditions a little further north of us near the Luosto ski resort.
