Arctic Lapland at Korvala
Arctic reindeer, husky and snowmobile safaris, log cabins complete with skis, snowshoes and ice fishing equipment, and Lapland’s wilderness with its forest paths, lakes and fishing are all available at Korvala, 60 km north of Rovaniemi and the Arctic Circle, Finland.
Korvala’s crown forest estate was established in 1889 alongside the path joining the village of Rovaniemi and the small community of Sodankylä. When the road was completed up to the ice-free Arctic Ocean, inn activity began. Today, work at Korvala’s inn is enjoyed by the fourth generation of the founding family.
Beautiful scenery, nature’s proximity, varied activities and long traditions are essential elements of a holiday at Korvala.

Husky, reindeer and snowmobile safaris along with other arctic winter activities make up most of our winter holiday programmes, giving opportunities to discover the true nature of Finnish Lapland. On safari, there is time to chat with the husky musher or reindeer herder, helping you to understand these arctic animals, while guided snowmobile safaris enable you to gain access to Lapland’s arctic wilderness.
Winter activities typical of Lapland are arranged at special prices for students. Husky, reindeer and snowmobile safaris are all available at lower prices when students present their student cards at reception. For students with a tight budget Rovaniemi is easy to reach by train, and buses run from Rovaniemi to Korvala on a regular basis, both offering reduced fares for students up to -50%.
Log cabins at Korvala offer cosy accommodation and these lakeside cottages, situated at the southern edge of the fell region north of Rovaniemi and the Arctic Circle, are open throughout summer and winter including the Christmas holidays. Over Christmas each log cabin has its own Christmas tree and a supply of Christmas decorations. Our log cabins are like the traditional red cottages seen in picture postcards of Finland. Christmas lights from a red log cabin contrasted against the white snow and lake ice with the pastel colours of Lapland’s arctic landscape in mid-winter is scenery fit for any Christmas, or even Chrismas card.
All guests staying in our log cabins for their winter holiday have free use of skis, snow shoes, toboggans, kick sledges and ice fishing equipment. Skiing routes are marked out and off-piste exploring is made easier with snow shoes. In addition to snow shoes, our skis are ‘forest’ skis which are designed for off-piste skiing.
Near our log cabins a small campsite is open in the summer along the lake shore. The campsite has been a popular holiday destination for over 50 years and provides all the typical campsite services. In summer, fishing is free in our lakes for all our cottage and campsite guests, as well as use of our boats and canoes. The beach and play area by the campsite is a popular place for children.
